Hydration and Heat Safety for Pets

Hydration and Heat Safety for Pets

Summer in South Africa offers a world of fun for pets and their families. The temperature in Gauteng can skyrocket fast, turning sunny days into scorchers. If you’re feeling the heat, you can bet your pets are too. Follow these tips to keep your pets safe and hydrated.

Double up on Water Bowls

Leave multiple bowls of fresh water in various locations around the house to make it easy for your pets to stay hydrated. On hot days, you can add a few ice blocks to the bowls for an extra refreshing treat.

If you use a Chill Out Cooler Bowl, you can put it in the freezer to cool down the gel ball inside and keep water cooler for longer.  Order one from The Queen Pet Shop here

Cats will love the Catit Flower Drinking Fountain that keeps their water fresh and flowing all day. Learn more about the benefits of using a drinking fountain on our Facebook page

Hydration on the Go

Your dogs love to accompany you on hikes, picnics and holidays out in nature, so make their adventure as safe as possible by being well prepared. Start with the perfect accessory for a day out; the Huntlea Adventure Water and Food Bowl. This is a compact, waterproof water and food bowl you can clip onto your lead, unzip and use anywhere. Shop it here.

Huntlea has also released a new Adventure Dry Bag which you can find in store at The Queen Pet Shop! This bag is perfect for storing dry food and treats on the go.

For conquering rocky territory, M-Pets Hiking Dog Shoes are a must to keep your fur baby’s paws protected. The shoes come in a range of sizes so visit Queen Pets with your dog to find the perfect fit.

Don’t forget sunscreen! Whether at home or out and about, apply sunscreen wherever your dog has little to no hair. This includes the nose, ears, belly and inner thighs.

Moisture Rich Foods and Treats

Wet food has a higher moisture content than dry food, so consider mixing in some wet food for your dogs and cats during summer months. You can also let them indulge in the variety of wet treats we have available online and in store.

Cool Toys for Summer

Playing fetch is about to become a hydrating activity with the All for Paws range of Chill Out toys. They have bones, watermelons, ice-cream cones and other fun shapes you can soak in water and let your dog chew on.

The soft material is ideal for teething puppies and safe for them to spend hours chewing on. Drinking water has never been more fun for fur babies!

General Summer Safety

Whether your pets remain home on summer days or go everywhere with you, remember these important rules:

  •  Always provide a shaded area for your pets to shelter under and avoid burnt paws.
  • Keep your pets indoors and near the fan during peak heat.
  • Never leave any pets in the car unattended for any amount of time.

Enjoy summer with your best friends and bring them along when you visit The Queen Pet Shop!
